Hi, and welcome! I’m Dr. Carmen Ochoa-Galindo.
For more than 20 years, I’ve dedicated my career to both education and mental health. I currently teach undergraduate psychology courses at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) and provide mental health consultation at Chicago Growth Mindset.
As a first-generation Mexican American, I have had the privilege of working with the Latino community throughout much of my career. These experiences have deepened my passion for helping students overcome challenges, build resilience, and discover their strengths.
Over the years, I’ve noticed a common pattern among many students: they push themselves to achieve academic success while neglecting their own well-being. The pressure to excel can lead to stress, burnout, anxiety, and the feeling that there is never enough time to simply enjoy the college experience. I’ve seen brilliant students question their worth because they believed success required constant sacrifice.
That’s why I created The Wellness Scholar.
My mission is to help students, educators, and lifelong learners achieve success without sacrificing their mental health. I believe academic achievement and personal well-being should go hand in handβnot compete with one another.
College is a marathon, not a sprint. My goal is to provide practical, evidence-based strategies that help you thrive academically while staying grounded, resilient, and well. I want you to be fully present for the journey, celebrating your growth along the way rather than simply going through the motions.
I’m so glad you’re here, and I look forward to being part of your wellness and learning journey.
