The High-Achiever’s Dilemma: When Success Starts to Cost You Your Well-Being and Peace.

You are the person others count on.

You meet deadlines, show up, solve problems, and keep pushing forward. From the outside, you look successful—but internally, you may feel exhausted, overwhelmed, and unsure how long you can maintain this pace.

Have you ever wondered if success has come at the expense of your own well-being?

Many of us carry full plates and endless to-do lists, constantly trying to catch up, get ahead, or reach the next milestone. Somewhere along the way, we may have started believing that success requires constant productivity, exhaustion, and sacrificing ourselves in the process.

But what if success didn’t have to feel this way?

What if achieving your goals and taking care of your mental health could exist together?

That is the belief behind The Wellness Scholar.

My goal is to provide evidence-based tools, practical strategies, and meaningful reflections to help ambitious and/or driven individuals reduce stress, prevent burnout, and build a healthier, more sustainable relationship with success.

Because the goal isn’t just to survive, the goal is to THRIVE.

Quien es esa chica, Who’s that Girl?

(For those of you who didn’t get the lyric above, it’s from Madonna’s 1987 song “Who’s That Girl?”) I am Dr. Carmen Ochoa-Galindo and I have over 20 years of experience in the mental health and education fields. I am a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) and have my doctorate in counseling psychology. I currently teach at UIC in the undergraduate psychology department and I’m also the internship coordinator for our applied psychology track. I do mental health consulting on the side with Chicago Growth Mindset, a great Latina and Women owned organization.

My experiences have shown me the same thing again and again: people who are driven, caring, and committed to doing well often carry tremendous pressure. They want to succeed, help others, and make a difference—but they sometimes forget that their own well-being matters too.

I created The Wellness Scholar for students, professionals, educators, and lifelong learners who believe in growth but recognize that achievement should not require sacrificing mental health.

A little about me beyond my work: I am the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants and a first-generation college graduate. I am a wife, a mom to almost 9-year-old twins, a devoted animal lover (three dogs and three cats!), and someone who believes that learning and growth are lifelong journeys.

Welcome to The Wellness Scholar.

A place where success and well-being meet.

Learn. Grow. Flourish.

Because success should never come at the expense of your mental health.
